Ultrasound FAQ

What is the difference between 2D, 3D, 4D/5D and HD ultrasound?

2D provides standard black-and-white images. 3D creates a static image, whereas 4D, HD/5D introduce movement, making it appear like a video. The latest in fetal keepsake ultrasound technology is HD Live Silhouette. This advanced approach uses software to adjust focus and simulate different lighting conditions in the ultrasound, providing a detailed view of your baby.

Is ultrasound safe?

Yes. Ultrasound uses sound waves (not radiation) and is considered safe when performed appropriately.

Do you provide diagnostic or medical ultrasounds?

We provide elective ultrasounds for bonding and viewing purposes. No referral is required for elective ultrasound scans; however, you must already be receiving prenatal care from a licensed provider. We offer 20-week anatomy scans (referral required from provider).

WHEN TO SCHEDULE

When is the best time for an ultrasound?

•             10–14 weeks: Early scans

•             15–26 weeks: Full body views

•             28–34 weeks: Best facial detail

From 28 to 32 weeks, the baby gains more fat, leading to a more distinct facial appearance. After 34 weeks, capturing clear images can be challenging due to limited space in the womb.

When can I find out the gender?

Gender determination is typically available starting at 6 weeks using a blood draw kit we offer from SneakPeek. With ultrasound, starting from 15 weeks, we can identify the baby’s gender with a high degree of accuracy. If you’re beyond 15 weeks and the gender isn’t discernible, we offer a complimentary rescan within the next 14 days on a weekday. Baby’s position can be a factor.

What if my baby is not in a good position?

We may recommend a rescan if images cannot be obtained during your session.
