Sheila Taylor is a Wife, Mother, and Birth Doula. She has been married to her high-school sweetheart, Duane, for twenty-one years. Together, they stay busy raising three teenagers, Ashley, Alex, and Nichole. She is an avid reader, and when inspired, enjoys blogging. She loves to nurture her creative side by baking, and capturing life through a camera lens.
Her interest in all things birth related began as a very young girl, with her dream being that she would someday be an Obstetric Nurse. As a teenager, she worked at Mercy Hospital, as a Candy Striper, and then a Unit Secretary on the OB floor. At the age of 15, she attended her first birth.
She graduated from high school, decided to put college on hold, and got married. After her first child was born, she was a stay at home mom for sixteen years, raising and home-schooling her children.
In 2008, the passion to get involved with birth was re-kindled while she was watching a birth-show. She saw a Doula attend to the birthing couple and knew she had just found what she had always wanted to do. After training with, and shadowing an experienced Doula for a year, she began attending to birthing couples on her own. She finds being a Doula fulfills her desire to attend to women during one of the most significant times of their lives, by offering consistent support, education, and encouragement.
In 2010, Sheila began working with the Midwives at New Beginnings Birth Center, as a Doula, and assisting in the office. After establishing a bond with clients, whether it is by welcoming them in for their appointments, or attending to them on Birth Day, she finds it is hard to say “goodbye” after their babies are born.
She has attended over 50 births as a Doula.
